Global Communication Stars (GCS) is a learning management system (LMS) for English-language teachers and learners in Japan.
Using GCS, teachers can:
- Post resources
- Post answers to questions learners have submitted
- Have learners vote on class activities that they like and display the results to draw on during class planning
- Have learners submit feedback about the teacher's performance - for example, regarding speaking speed and pacing
- Set up and grade assessment items, and provide feedback to learners about them
- Leave notes/reminders for themselves
- Have learners vote about a topic and then have generative A.I. provide discussion questions based on the results of the learners' voting
- Create and display a class mission
- Play games with their learners
- Create and display a list of English that the learners in the class should review
- Have generative A.I. provide examples of English being covered in class
- Have generative A.I. provide shortened and simplified texts
- Enable learners to interact with generative A.I. in real time about class topics
- Access and play videos that aim to build learners' ability to be effective communicators domestically and internationally
- Engage in professional development activities, such as reflecting about their practice and curating a list of practical teaching tactics chosen when reviewing relevant principles and academic literature
Using GCS, learners can:
- Complete short speaking tasks and get automatic feedback on pronunciation, fluency, etc.
- Do automated pronunciation and speaking tests
- Receive study support from generative A.I.
- Participate in online chats with their classmates with the help of generative A.I.
- Do a quiz focused on the NGSL vocabulary list
- Get advice about studying English from movies and music
- Get practice listening to different varieties of English
- Complete tasks related to body language, cultural differences, and intercultural communication skills
- Get advice related to proficiency tests
- Engage in personalized English review for a specific course with the help of generative A.I.
- Engage in integrated English review for multiple courses with the help of generative A.I.
- Reflect on their well-being related to English study
- Chat with, and share opinions and study resources with university students at different universities around Japan
